After all the hooplah of Chu Boi going to E3 last week, we thought we’d catch up on the games we’ve been playing. We touch on the NPD’s… but other than that it’s all about what we’ve been playing.

I don’t remember Ryu having a flame-spewing move like this guy breaks out at the end, but I’ll let it slide this time on account of this video being hilarious. I especially like his dropkick that ends up looking like it hurts him more than the car.

What it is: Grand Slam Tennis (Wii), by EA Sports.
Why You Should Care: Because it’s Wii Sports Tennis but it works. The ball went where I wanted it to go with the new Wii Motion Plus. There was the odd occasion where the player animation didn’t exactly replicate the swing I was trying to achieve, but that didn’t happen too often. It also beats Wii Sports in functionality since you can move your player around with the nunchuk.
If you’re into tennis, then this is what you’re looking for. Period.

It wasn’t your normal FPS by a long shot. Instead of shooting everything that moved, you actually talked to people. The game was very well received and became a poster child for making a proper movie tie-in. With this new package, Starbreeze is giving you Riddick’s previous great escape and adding the next chapter to the chronicles, Assault on Dark Athena. With almost five years in between the releases, does Dark Athena live up to it’s well loved predecessor?

This week Chu Boi went to E3 while Pete and Jacob spited him with all the force they could muster. We eschew the regular ‘whatcha been playing’ and in lieu we just talk about all things E3. We’ll be back next week with a more regularly arranged podcast. Hit the jump to check out the show notes… but more importantly… get to the podcast!!

What it is: Split/Second, an arcade racer by Black Rock Studios and Disney, the makers of Pure.
Why You Should Care: Because I walked out of the Disney booth as if I just saw a Jerry Bruckheimer film that didn’t suck. Unlike movies, arcade racers don’t need to have a good plot to be enjoyable. Think Burnout but with some of the craziest explosions you’ve ever seen in a video game. Read More..

Sony had a tough act to follow this year after impressive showings from both Microsoft and Nintendo. A steady stream of leaks about an HD based PSP took some of the suprise out of Jack Tretton’s keynote, but he handled it fairly well and ended up impressing with a steady stream of AAA titles, and some exciting 3rd party exclusive announcements.
Hit the jump to see how the big black box held it down at this years E3 Read More..
