We’ve all accepted that Wii Fit is designed to actually make you fit. Besides a few civilian tests like Bozon from IGN’s WiiGetFit Blog, there has been no attempt to prove or disprove the Fit factor of the Balance Board app. Introducing: SCIENCE! A few researchers from the University of Mississippi have decided to run a six month study on Wii Fit where they will test family’s fitness levels for 3 months with Wii Fit and three months without.
In other Wii Fit news, Seacroft Hospital in the UK has adopted the balance game into the physiotherapy program for new amputees to improve balance and stability.
Senior physiotherapist Lynn Hirst states that many times patients have trouble “getting their weight through the prosthetic limb.” However, with the aid of the balance board, Wii Fit allows patients to see “where they are taking their weight.”
Seems like a perfect use for Wii Fit, considering each weigh-in comes with a statement about your centre of gravity. It seems like the Wii is getting used the more in rehabilitation institutions than at home.
