We talk games.

How did we get from 1 stick and 1 button to 2 sticks, 1 D-pad, 6 buttons, 2 shoulders and 2 options? With this great visual guide, you can find out! I’m not sure why the PS3 controller isn’t there, but you can imagine what it would say. Also, there’s no mention of rumble functionality or memory pack spaces. Even with those things missing, it’s very interesting to look at how we got where we are. I want a large scale poster version please. There are also portable gaming and special control charts on the site. Check then out after the jump.

  1. Pretty interesting! I don’t know why they included two Xbox controllers. The revision didn’t change any of the button mapping, it just made it playable.

  2. this is definitely one of the coolest things I’ve looked at in awhile.

although the layouts are the same on both xbox controllers the overall size of the controller has a huge impact on the playability it, totally justified.

  3. this would make such an incredible poster…

  4. I can dig the playstation controllers but I still say the most comfortable was the SNES.

  5. I recently grudgingly accepted the 360 controller as the most comfortable and best controller design (except for the d-pad… which is painfully shitty).

  6. my vote goes to gamecube.
the curves leading up to those shoulder buttons get me everytime.

  7. of course, controlling every household appliance with the wave of your hand makes powerglove pretty damn essential
