We talk games.

Obama has appointed Kevin Werbach, an active World of Warcraft player, to co-chair his FCC transition team. He is also an assistant professor of legal studies and business ethics at Wharton. The latter is probably the more likely reason he got the job, but let’s put that aside for a second. Werbach is a member of two guilds in WoW; one started by his friend and the other full of academics who study and write about virtual spaces.

The other co-chair, Susan Crawford; a teacher at the University of Michigan, confesses that she is “a huge fan of Second Life” and admires the control that players have over their creations.

I’m not well versed in the tasks that they will be performing in their new roles, but can only be a good thing to have people who actually understand online gaming in places of importance. With millions of people playing WoW, this did seem somewhat inevitable. Maybe Werbach can get Obama into WoW! what do you think, Gnome Warrior? Undead Priest?
