We talk games.

When Street Fighter IV was released 4 months ago there was a great deal of concern about what kind of controllers people would play the game on. Surely the 360 D-Pad, notorious for it’s lack of accuracy, would be the bane of all SF players. The PS controller, though slightly more accurate, was a mess that would leave thumbs blistered after a short session of mashing out Ultra moves.

Fortunately, our options don’t end there. Arcade enthusiasts have taken their game to the next level with accurately modeled Arcade Sticks that recreate the arcade cabinet experience. We have been tossing Hadokens with a range of sticks since the release of SF IV and now we are ready to share what we feel are the best fighting game controller options available. Hit the jump (up on the controller, dummy!) to check out the results.

Johnny Lee, eat your heart out! What you see above is a combination of a handful of technologies that are being integrated to create some really interesting applications. It allows you to ‘lean’ around corners, turn using your head, and even scope in and out with basic head movements.

Torben Sko
has been working on this as a PhD project, which will surely earn him the high marks he’s looking for. It’s interesting to see technologies like this start emerging only after we saw Natal, and Sony’s new camera based motion technology. It looks like we’ve had the gear to do it for years, it was just a matter of arranging it in an effective way.

After all the hooplah of Chu Boi going to E3 last week, we thought we’d catch up on the games we’ve been playing. We touch on the NPD’s… but other than that it’s all about what we’ve been playing.

I don’t remember Ryu having a flame-spewing move like this guy breaks out at the end, but I’ll let it slide this time on account of this video being hilarious. I especially like his dropkick that ends up looking like it hurts him more than the car.

What it is: Grand Slam Tennis (Wii), by EA Sports.

Why You Should Care: Because it’s Wii Sports Tennis but it works. The ball went where I wanted it to go with the new Wii Motion Plus. There was the odd occasion where the player animation didn’t exactly replicate the swing I was trying to achieve, but that didn’t happen too often. It also beats Wii Sports in functionality since you can move your player around with the nunchuk.

If you’re into tennis, then this is what you’re looking for. Period.

Richard B. Riddick’s first adventure in gaming, Escape from Butcher Bay, was ahead of it’s time. It was a first person shooter that had equal parts shooting, sneaking and adventuring. It wasn’t your normal FPS by a long shot. Instead of shooting everything that moved, you actually talked to people. The game was very well received and became a poster child for making a proper movie tie-in. With this new package, Starbreeze is giving you Riddick’s previous great escape and adding the next chapter to the chronicles, Assault on Dark Athena. With almost five years in between the releases, does Dark Athena live up to it’s well loved predecessor?
